Judith graduated from Oakland University with both a master’s in education and a master’s in history. Her commitment to education extended far beyond the classroom. As a teacher, she was known for her patience, kindness, and ability to inspire curiosity in her students.
She married Michael McGarragan at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Royal Oak, MI. Together, they raised their three daughters with care and devotion. Judith was not only a dedicated mother, but also a loving grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, whether they were going to the movies, reading books together, or learning science.
Judith’s life was filled with energy and passion, and she found great joy in simple pleasures. Whether it was relaxing on a beach, lounging by a pool with a good book, or spending quality time with her family, she approached each day with a zest for life that was truly contagious.
Over the years, Judith called several places home, including Sylvan Lake, MI, Troy, MI, and Hillsboro Beach, FL, but it was the love of her family that truly made each place special.
Judith is survived by her daughters: Kathy (Greg) Nelson, Lynda (Russ) White and Laura (Gerald Hayward) McGarragan; sister-in-law Ava Gossinger; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to caregiver, Sue Brandt. She was preceded in death by friend and ex-husband Michael McGarragan; parents: Frank J. Gossinger and Betty Gossinger; loving brother Frank B. Gossinger; sister-in-law Kathy Gossinger; and loving brother Gary T. Gossinger.
A memorial service for Judith will be held Friday, April 4, 2025, at 11:00am with a visitation one hour prior at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI 48823.
