Died peacefully on January 14, 2013 in Mequon, Wisconsin, at the age of 89, but she primarily lived from 1950 to 2012 in East Lansing. She was the only child of Dr. Lester Sanders Hill and Mabel Hitt Hill of Bronxville, New York. Judy graduated from Bronxville High School in 1941 and then from Lasell College, in Newton, Massachusetts, in 1943, where she excelled in several women’s sports. After working at the headquarters of Norcoss Cards and Stationary, 244 Madison Ave, Manhattan for a number of years, Judy and a college friend Betty White (Drobac) headed west for East Lansing to the then Michigan state College of Agriculture and Applied Science. Working as a secretary in the Department of Continuing Education, first in Morrill Hall and then in the basement of the Kellogg Center, she met and then married Richard Marcus in 1952 at People’s Church. Judy worked in several political campaigns, loved entertaining before MSU football games, and enjoyed traveling with her husband to conventions. Richard and Judy were married for 43 years until his death in 1995. She had two children Richard D. and Janet L. Marcus, but Janet died in 1973.
Judy is survived by her son, Richard D. Marcus, and daughter-in-law, Kandy Kessler Marcus of Fox Point, Wisconsin and granddaughter, Sarah N. Johnson (husband, SSG Michael J. Johnson) of Watertown, New York.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 11:00 a.m., at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, with the Rev. Penelope Swartz , officiating. Special music will be provided by the Olde Time Harmony Quartet and luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home.
