Kara Kimberly Hebert, of Okemos, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2015. She was just 32 years old but lived and loved more than some do twice her age. Even in her last moments, her focus wasn’t on death, but on life. In fact, in lieu of a traditional funeral, Kara insisted her family celebrate her memory by honoring what they have together, rather than what is lost.
As Gabriel Garcí¬a Márquez once said, “Nobody can take away the dances you've already had.”
Those who got to share the dance floor with Kara will remember her infectious laugh. Her wit. Her compassion. Her love of family. Her love of nature. Her love of the simple things like gardening and soccer games. Her love of helping others. And most of all, her love of love.
Her family and friends weren’t the only ones who benefited from her generous spirit. For the last nine years she worked as a Registered Nurse for McLaren (Flint) and Sparrow Hospital (Lansing). She dedicated her life to taking care of others. She saved many and touched even more.
All would agree, Kara left the world better than she found it. She is survived by her parents Kimberly Gavin and David Hebert; her brother Ryan Hebert; her husband Matthew Deiss; her children, Benjamin, Bailee, and Lucas.
They are comforted by the words of Kara’s favorite author Nicholas Sparks who wrote, “Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it can. And just when you think it can’t get better, it can.”
A fund has been created in her honor. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that gestures of condolence be in the form of contributions to her fund.
