It’s a sad day for many, especially the Postal Service, due to the loss of Kathleen Alanna Peters Fuller. She died peacefully at home on May 8, 2021 at the age of 90.
She was born In Detroit on August 4, 1930 to Lester and Mary Garry Peters. She attended the Marywood Academy in Grand Rapids, then attended Michigan State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education.
Kathie married Wendell Fuller in July of 1952 and began their adventure of raising six children. They lived in Texas and Florida during Wendell’s years in the Air Force before settling back in her beloved community of East Lansing.
They built their forever home on 684 John R. Street. The house was always full of relatives, friends, neighbors and a large menagerie of pets. Children loved to visit because of her vast collection of wind-up toys, Pooh bears, books, musical instruments, bubbles, many M&M dispensers and more. Everyone enjoyed visiting this fun-filled home of Elvis and MSU collectibles and family photos galore.
Kathie had a very kind, sweet nature, and in her quiet way taught us about patience and kindness for others. Never forgetting to send a birthday card once she knew your birthday, she would also send notes daily for many special occasions to hundreds of family and friends.
She was proud of her Irish heritage and St Patrick’s day was a special occasion full of green fun such as green nail polish, green shoes, green clothes, and green light up jewelry. Green was also on the menu which included green milk, green mashed potatoes and green desserts every year.
As a founding member of the St. Thomas Aquinas parish Kathie was active in the women’s guild and trained dozens of Altar servers.
At the age of 77 she moved to Washington State to live with her daughter Denise. In the next six years she had many adventures visiting Olympic National Park and Victoria Canada, a move cross country to Virginia where she toured Shenandoah National Park with many day trips through Virginia and Maryland. She returned to East Lansing to stay in 2014.
She will be dearly missed by her six children and their families: Wendell Jr (Cheryl) Fuller of Ormond Beach FL, Diane (Jack) Chadwick of Savanna IL, Michael Fuller of East Lansing MI, Karen Fuller of Muskegon, MI, Denise Fuller of East Lansing MI and Colleen (Tom) Tupper of East Lansing MI, and also by her favorite cousin Rick Todd and many nieces and nephews.
She was a proud and loving Granny to her seven grandchildren: Jalen "Mikey" Weir, Patrick Fuller, Caitlin Tupper, Amelia Helix, Kelsey Tupper, Zachary Wood and Megan Tupper. The grandchildren used to say ‘Let’s go ask Granny, she has wisdom’.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Garry Peters, father Lester C. Peters, and five siblings: Lester Peters Jr, Norine Jones, Mary Josephine Hopper, Joan Radeke, and John Peters.
The family would like to thank Elara Caring, especially Zachary and the Palliative and Hospice teams who provided wonderful support and guidance.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 17, 2021 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Sunday at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel, with a prayer service at 7:30pm. Please join us for an Irish celebration of her life in August 2021, date to be announced.
Some of the quietest people can make the biggest impact in your life – that was our mom.
