Kenneth A. Hafer, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2020 in East Lansing, Michigan. Ken was born on July 23, 1931 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Robert and Dora (Tesmer) Hafer. He attended the University of Michigan, and then served with the US Army for the Korean conflict. Upon his discharge from the service, Ken began a long and fulfilling career as an architect, designing the structure and appearance of many buildings in the Detroit area including the International Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport, malls, and numerous churches.
Ken had a passion for military history, and he enjoyed volunteering at the Yankee Air Museum as a docent. He also loved classical music and singing with choir for many years at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church in Dearborn.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erlene (Otto) Hafer; his parents, his sisters, Marilyn Erkfitz and Marjory McCusker; and his granddaughter, Alison Hafer.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Harriet (Foss); his children, Kathy (Gary) Kerr, Gary (Laurie) Hafer, and Kendra (Tim) Wietstock; his grandchildren, Garrett, Kalli, Abbey (Alex), Dylan, Kayla, Megan (Mark), and Matthew; and his great-grandson, Brayden; Harriet’s children, Stephen (Leona) Boegehold, Russell (Margaret) Boegehold, Lisa Boegehold, and Scott Boegehold; Harriet’s grandchildren, Anna, Stephen, Serena, Lauren, and Emma.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
