It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Kevlar William Azar. He was 18.

Kevlar came into and out of this world at great speed, which is also how he enjoyed living life. Whether on a dirt bike, 4-wheeler, jet ski, boat, snowmobile, snowboard, wake surfing or a side-by-side, he loved going fast.

No matter the interest, Kevlar put all of his effort into mastering any skill he could. You knew that if you ever saw him walk on his hands. Kevlar was always focused on knowing exactly how things worked. While school was not his thing, his intellect was evident in the way he mastered skills he was infatuated by.

Kevlar was a genuine human whose light radiated wherever he went. When he walked into a room his presence was always known. No matter the circumstances he was always there for others in a way that very few others could ever manage. He had a love for meeting people and getting to truly know about them. No matter the age, Kevlar had a way of striking up a conversation and making people feel important.

There will be a void in our lives and those who knew him forever, but we have great memories that we will always cherish.

Son of Keith and Jennifer (Springsteen) Azar. Brother of Veronica Azar. Grandson of Doug and Linda Springsteen, Jeanette Azar and the late William Azar.

A note from the family: We now have all of Kevlar’s final arrangements and wanted to pass along to everyone- please share with any and all that want to attend via social media, etc.

-Viewing will be from 2:00 to 8:00 on Friday, Nov. 13th at Gorsline Runciman, 1730 East Grand River, East Lansing, 48823 (517-337-9745). Due to Covid, masks are required along with social distancing and limited room capacity of 50 people. We know from the overwhelming support and outreach we are receiving there will likely be a large number of people who want to pay their last respects and say goodbye to Kevlar which may limit time for us visit with friends and family and the funeral home may try to keep people moving through the room to accommodate everyone with the Covid requirements so the interactions that day may be shorter than desired. -Kevlar’s Celebration of Life: On Saturday, Nov. 14th: starting at 2:00: We are having an open house for Kevlar at our house located at 4488 Sleight Rd., Bath 48808 ( address is on white post by road, follow black top driveway back into the woods- don’t knock just come in). This is the saddest moment of our lives but Kevlar would want nothing more than his friends to come together and celebrate his life and having the honor to know him and tell a “Kevlar Story." I know he touched many lives and had an impact on many so don’t feel awkward to laugh and share with others about a funny time you had with him as this will be the day we can spend some quality time with everyone as we are all hurting and need to start to heal.

Please feel free to bring any photos or anything else you may like to share. Everyone is very welcome, friends, classmates, coworkers, etc., etc. Masks can be worn at guests' discretion. Please don’t bring any food, we will have plenty. If you would like to do something in his honor please make a donation to Capital Area Humane Society on Kevlar’s behalf at their website (https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=cahsad&id=23) or we will have a donation box at the house as well. Kevlar loved animals, especially his dog Habibi, who slept with him nightly. Our family is very close and we are totally devastated. We will have a void in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Our only solace is knowing that we have great memories of Kevlar that will be with us forever and those are what we must relish. Always Remember - Cherish your loved one’s every moment each day as things can forever change in a split second. Love, the Azar Family Keith, Jen and Veronica

I knew Kevlar in middle school. We would play Nitro Type together and he was so good at typing so whenever I won I would know that he went easy on me. I remember once he looked at me in class and said "Fatimah? Are we friends?". He really touched my heart. I remember my classmates and I were all sad to find out that he was leaving Bath schools. I had a dream about him a week before he passed, I wish I reached out to him to tell him that I missed him. Rest in Peace Kevlar!

My favorite memory with Kevlar is our family trip to Disney World we took as kids. I can still remember us having so much fun trying to guess the colors of the monorails before they arrived. I will never forget how kind and patient he was in teaching me how to surf off the back of the boat during our annual trips to Burt lake. I will miss him very much❤️

Kevlar was my student at MSU. When everyone else had their videos off, Kevlar had his on. We were able to get to know him. He was such a kind and nice student. He added so much to the class with his comments and participation. This is rare in a young college student. His personality was friendly and outgoing. The Tas and I will really miss Kevlar.

It with much sadness in my heart for you all. Kevlar was the. Sweetest. Boy. I remember meeting him as principal of Bath Elementary years ago and the grace that followed him around was remarkable. He was so kind hearted and sensitive and I can still see his smile. My heart is very sad and I cannot imagine your pain. Please know my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

I was one of Kevlar’s teachers in 4th grade, I have fond memories of Kevlar. He was always very sweet and considerate. I had a rubber ducky on my desk, one morning I sat down and saw someone had made the duck a tiny hat. I chuckled and looked up to see Kevlar peaking over at me, he had made it and was watching to see my reaction. We both had a good laugh. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I knew Kevlar through classes at Spartan Krav Maga. We trained, sparred and wrestled together. He was a friendly and humble young man of character and his family should be proud of him. I pray for his family. Here is a photo I took during Kevlar's krav maga test, the best I could come up with.

Kevlar was kind, friendly, and welcoming to all students when he attended our elementary school. He was energetic and fun loving and he really took the time to think of others. His influence in our school was greatly appreciated by staff and students alike. I’m so thankful to have known Kevlar and for the impact that he and his family have had in our community. Praying for the Azar family in this very difficult time.
