

Linda A. Jackson, Ph.D., born into earthly life December 18, 1948 on Staten Island, New York, born into eternal life July 29, 2014 in Lansing, Michigan. Linda was a proud graduate of Cornell University with a B.S. in Genetics and Microbiology. She had Master of Arts degrees from Cornell and Rochester University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Rochester. She joined the Michigan State University Department of Psychology in 1981 as an Assistant Professor. She was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 1986, and became a full Professor in 1993. From 2004, she also held a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Linda’s recent scholarship focused on technology and communication. Her earlier work involved gender perception and stereotypes and their impacts on attitudes and behavior. Linda published more than 70 research articles, as well as numerous chapters and two books. For years, she taught Psychology 101 to untold thousands of students. Wherever she traveled, she would encounter MSU grads who fondly remembered her course. Linda was a strong, delightful, sparkling woman who will be deeply missed. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward J. and Anna (Chiuchiolo) Jackson, and her brother Robert. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, (Dcn.) Mike Murray; her children Chris (Rumi Aramaki) Murray and Lindsay Murray, her granddaughters Sena and Milana Murray, her sister Evelyn (Robert) LaGoe, and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing Chapel. The Scripture Service will be held at 7:00. The funeral Mass will be at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Road in East Lansing at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Mourners will be received in the back of the church for an hour before Mass. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing. Arrangements are being handled by Gorsline Runciman, East Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Thomas Aquinas School or Lansing Catholic High School.
