Obituary of Lois Ann Downing
Graduated from Eastern High School in 1946. Was married to Everett Downing in 1947. Everett passed away in 2016 at age 92. They are survived by son Dave Downing, daughter-in-law Patricia Downing, granddaughter Amanda Dawdy and great-grandson Miles Dawdy; and her sister Karen Domanski. Lois sang with the Machtel music group in the Lansing area, and won singing contests, most notably in Chicago. For years she worked with disabled children teaching music at several area schools and learning centers. For years she volunteered with the “Save the Flags” project with the State of Michigan. This project preserves the original battle flags of Michigan regiments from the civil war, Spanish-American war, and world war I. She worked several jobs in the area with the state, local attorneys, real estate and association offices. Being involved in researching family history she published a book of her family tree. Later, she wrote a children’s book about the story of her father finding a mastodon tooth on the family farm. Lois lived in the Lansing area her whole life. She has been a member of the Mason United Methodist Church. The last few years as a resident at Safe Haven in Okemos.
