

Ellen was born Dec. 18, 1929 in Flint, the daughter of Walter and Susan (Agnetta) Piggott.
Ellen graduated from Flint Central High School and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before her marriage to Stuart James Knickerbocker Dec. 29, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Morris.
Ellen and Stuart built a home in Fenton in 1966, where they raised their children, Matthew, James and Susan, moving to Grand Blanc in 1986, and later to East Lansing.
Ellen was a nursing home administrator, and ran the former Riverbend Nursing Home in Grand Blanc for nearly 20 years.
She also ran nursing homes in Fenton, Milford and East Lansing before her retirement.
Ellen loved cooking and helping the elderly.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart James Knickerbocker of East Lansing; daughter Susan (Matthew) Field of Mt. Pleasant; son Matthew (Adrienne Thompson) Knickerbocker of Bethel, Conn.; and son James (Linda) Knickerbocker of Eldred, Penn.
She is also survived by nieces and nephews Beverly Knickerbocker and Sharon (John Gunnells) Knickerbocker, and Mike, Tom, David, Greg and Debra Knickerbocker; Nancy (John) Lamers, Mark (Mary) Sandquist and George Sanquist Jr.; grandchildren Alyssa (Jeff Steele) Knickerbocker of Indianola, Wash. and Devin (Alexandra) Knickerbocker of New York, N.Y.; step-grandchildren Kelly and Cheryl Field.; and great-grandchildren Rowan and Remy Steele of Indianola, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nayda Sandquist; her brother, Donald Piggott; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Barbara Knickerbocker, Bruce and Jewell Knickerbocker and Joseph and Marion Knickerbocker.
Per her wishes, Ellen is being cremated.
A celebration of her life will be planned for a later date.
