Marcella A. Read passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the age of 95. Marcella was born on June 29, 1919 in Volin, SD to Alfred and Marian (Rockne) Solem. She married Harry D. Read on December 13, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA after World War II, and had two children together.

Harry and Marcy resided in Williamston for many years, and enjoyed spending winters in Lakeland, Florida.

Marcella worked at Sears and later retired from Michigan State University, Department of Public Safety. Marcella was a member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Williamston and was very active in the Okemos community, especially with the Meridian Senior Center. One of her greatest loves was to travel worldwide with her sister Elsie, including a trip to their ancestral homeland of Norway.

She is survived by her two children, Charlotte P. Byers of Lansing; Donald H. Read of East Lansing; grandchildren, Darren (Lesa) Smith, Ingrid (Dennis) Walker, Jessie (Elizabeth) Read, Jennifer Read, Elisabeth (Tim) Barrie, Patrick (Cindy) Read, Shane Read-Smyth and Donald H. Read, Jr. –Smyth. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Caitlynn Smith, Juelles Read, Emily Barrie, Hannah Barrie, Landon Read, Miranda Read, Emma Read as well as many nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Bob (Kathy) Redline of CA and sister-in-law, Betty Keyes of FL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry D. Read, who passed away in 1986 and her sister, Elsie Redline of CA.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, 4650 N. Meridian Road, Williamston with The Very Rev. Ronald Charles Byrd, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, October 19 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing.
