Marguerite “Geet” Barnard passed away on June 4, 2016, surrounded by her family. She grew up in Haslett, Michigan, graduating in 1967. In 1969, she met and married the love of her life, Terry. She worked fulltime for the State of Michigan for over 34 years, retiring in 2002. Geet was an avid Red Wings and Spartan fan. She was a long time bowler in several leagues in the Lansing area. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR, flowers, bird watching, animals, camping, traveling and watching her grandsons play sports. She especially enjoyed going to the casino with her husband. Of all of the things that made her life full, there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her husband, daughters, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy, and to her there was nothing better than laughing at the inside jokes and silliness that came along with time spent with them. She also loved spending time traveling, shopping and going to movies with her sisters. She is deeply loved by her family and will forever be missed by those she knew. She exhibited incredible strength and endured the awful side effects of cancer treatment, all so that she could spend more time with her family and friends. Her strength was truly an inspiration. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Willard Graham; mother-in-law, Elaine Barnard; sister, Kaye Sober; niece, Jamie Sober; and great nephew Cayman Frost. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Terry; daughters, Brandi (Dave) Blatt and Amy Barnard; grandsons, Austin and Josh Blatt; special sisters, Marlene Graham and Teresa (James) Bargo; father-in-law, Arlo Barnard; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends. Special thanks to her doctors, Dr. Tony Brandau, Dr. Elizabeth Layhe, Dr. Joseph Kozlowksi, and Dr.John Sauchak, and to the wonderful nurses and staff with McClaren Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
