girlfriend, family member, coworker, and friend died on May 7, 2021 in San Francisco,
California.
Marianne was born in Lansing, Michigan on October 17, 1985, grew up in Haslett, and
graduated from Haslett High School. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree with honors in
social work from Michigan State University and a master’s in social work from the University of
Michigan. She worked in the Detroit/Flint area for several years, specializing in services to the
homeless. In 2013 she moved to California to take a position with the Veterans Administration
in Menlo Park, again working in programs for homeless veterans, rising quickly to a supervisory
role.
Marianne leaves behind father Philip (Gail) Deschaine, mother Claudia (Charles) Remenar,
brother Philip (Mattie Burch) Deschaine, sister Elizabeth (Joshua) Rychlinski and nephew
Caleb, step sister Stacy (David Parkin) Remenar, and boyfriend Jay Lal. Marianne was utterly
beloved by her large extended families and wide networks of friends, unmatched in her
boundless energy, incredible generosity, and zest for life. Marianne lit up every room she
entered.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 21, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, at Gorsline Runciman
Funeral Home, 1730 E Grand River Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823, and Saturday, May 22, from
11 AM- 12 PM at St. John Catholic Church, 327 M. A. C. Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823. The
funeral service will take place on Saturday, May 22, at 12 PM at St. John Catholic Church with
interment following at Glendale Cemetery, 2500 Mt Hope Rd, Okemos, MI 48864.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Marianne’s memory to Meridian Cares, 5151
