Marie Johanna Ginther, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27, 2021 in Okemos, Michigan. Born November 5, 1922 in Reed City, Michigan to August and Esther (Brehm) Borsum, Marie graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing and attended Acme Business School, graduating with a degree in administration. She worked for REO Olds as his bookkeeper for two years. After meeting her future husband, Howard Ginther, at a roller skating rink, she and Howard were married on October 28, 1943; together, they raised their four children in East Lansing.
Marie was a Sparrow Hospital Volunteer for 25 years in the gift shop, and volunteered frequently in the St. Thomas Aquinas School and Church Guild. She was a member of the Rosary/Altar Guild Society. Always a hard worker, Marie worked a variety of jobs through the years as well: sewing draperies, MSU Registration and MSU Audio Voice Print Identification Program, as a part time dental receptionist and serving as a Precinct Chair for the East Lansing Elections.
Marie’s days were filled with the pursuit of her many hobbies. She enjoyed swimming, volleyball, ping-pong, walking, and bird watching, as well as being an avid reader. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Willows of Okemos for their excellent care over the past six years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard P. Ginther; her daughter, Lorraine Milner; her son-in-law, Stanley Milner; her sister, Ruth Albert; her brothers, Ted and Alfred Borsum; and her parents.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joanne (Don) Slanina, Raymond (Marie) Ginther, and Kathryn (Gary) Stein; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Barber.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lansing.
