Marshall James Nyland, age 83 of Allen, Texas passed away on August 15, 2022 with his daughter Marcia by his side. Marshall was born on December 10, 1938 in Cadillac, Michigan to Walter and Lizziebell (Shoop) Nyland. He lived in Hobart, Michigan and graduated from Tustin High School. Marshall continued his education at Michigan State University earning a Bachelor degree in Education. Then earned his master’s degree from Michigan State. His first teaching assignment was in Luther, Michigan where he taught math and coached basketball and baseball. He then went to Tustin, Michigan where he was a teacher of math and coached for two years. He moved to Carson City, Michigan where he taught math and coached basketball and baseball. During his tenure he became principal of the High School. He also drove the school bus when needed. Years later he moved to Ionia where he taught math at the Ionia Correctional Facility, from which he retired. He spent winters in Florida and Arizona. Marshall loved to hunt morel mushrooms, was an avid trout fisherman. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Marshall is survived by his four daughters. Marcia Nyland, Sue (Ken) Williamson, Pam (Frank) Kisberg, Theresa (Pat) Anderson. Five grandchildren. Leigh, Ryan, Cia, Benjamin and Kennedy. His sister Alice and sister-in-laws Sandy Nyland, Gayle Nyland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Robert Nyland, Helen Nyland, William Nyland, Charles Nyland, Clarabell Davis and Gerald Nyland. The family will join together to honor his life and memory in Gaylord, Michigan.
