Martha was born in Jinan, Shandong Province, China, in 1915. She was married to Vincent Tsuo-lien Chai (deceased). She is survived by stepdaughter Mrs. Mary Liang, daughters Mrs. Jane Wei (and son-in-law Paul) and Mrs. Joyce Lin. She had eleven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She and her family lived in Taiwan until 1974 when they immigrated to the U.S. During her early years, she had joined the Franciscan Hospital Sisters and received a diploma in Nursing in Springfield, Illinois before returning to China. Through the rest of her life, she continued to devote herself to healing and caring for people with physical or spiritual needs and to serving the Lord. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in East Lansing and a founding member of the prayer group Cenacle. Her strong faith, positive attitude, prayerful life, and her love and devotion to the Blessed Mother were exemplary. She was an inspiration to her circle of friends and was nicknamed “Saint Martha”. She will be missed dearly by her family and all who came to know and love her.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823,
at 11 a.m. on May 17, 2013. Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., and visitation will start at 10:30 a.m. in church. Following the Mass, a luncheon will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in East Lansing.
