Martin Dutton

Martin Dutton, age 82, died January 31, 2014. He was born February 2, 1931 in Hardin County, IL. Marty was someone who touched more lives than anyone we know. Someone who never thought twice about doing all he could to help the people around him; someone who never forgot any embarrassing childhood story and was quick with a joke to brighten the dreariest day. He honorably served his country in the US Army, dedicated his life to his wife, children, extended family, his church, friends, and business associates. With very little example of his own, he showed his sons how to be fathers and his daughter how to be a loving mother. His wisdom and influence in all the lives who knew him will be greatly missed. He will live on in our hearts, in the winds that blow, the diamond sparkles of snow, the stars that shine at night and the birds that circle in flight. It is not our loss for know where he is, in his heavenly home where he waits for us to join him again. Rest in peace Marty, you deserve it the most of anyone we have known.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Beverly Lou Sanford (1982). Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Shirley; daughter, Sandra (James) Opper; 2 sons, Randell (Lilian) Dutton and Daniel Dutton; 12 grandchildren, Brian Dutton, Kevin Dutton, Alejandra Dutton, Andrew Dutton, Christopher Dutton, Danielle Dutton, Alec Dutton, Tricia Opper, Tabitha Killebrew, James Opper, Jordan Opper and Seth Opper; several great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Garland (Irene) Dutton, James (Millie) Oxford and John Peters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Lake Lansing Baptist Church, 5960 Okemos Road, East Lansing, MI 48823 with Rev. Robert Grimwood officiating. Interment will be in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, MI. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
