Obituary of Mary Alice Flegal
Mary Alice (Ritchie) Flegal Lived 1937-August 3, 2022 Mary A. Flegal, daughter of Thomas and Ethel Ritchie, passed peacefully on August 3, 2022, surrounded by family. Mary is survived by her loving husband Cal J. Flegal; her brother Robert W. Ritchie (Sharon); her children M. Lynne Steele (Bernie), David J. Flegal (Annette) and Thomas B. Flegal; her grandchildren Heather Hale (Brad), Amanda Flegal, Tim Magee (Renee), Brandon Brown (Ashley), Michael Flegal (Elizabeth), Sarah Flegal, and Alex Flegal; and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy A. Hughes and her brother John T. Ritchie (Myrna). Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who lived a life of love, kindness and humor. She enjoyed embroidery and travel with her husband Cal. She particularly enjoyed multiple trips to her ancestral Ireland and connecting with her father’s relatives and discovering his homeland. She loved spending time with her family at their Lake Cottage and she treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a vibrant woman of love and quick wit. In lieu of flowers Mary’s family asks that you consider a donation to either: • Lansing Area Agriculture and Natural Resources Club to support their scholarship program for students of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University or the University United Methodist Church (University UMC) in East Lansing. To donate to the LAANRC you may send a letter with your name, address, and phone number, stating that you wish to donate to the Lansing Area Agriculture & Natural Resources Endowed Scholarship Fund (Account A1004020) in memory of Mary A. Flegal. A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave, East Lansing, MI 48823. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur Friday, August 12, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012. Serving as pallbearers are Dave Flegal, Tom Flegal, Alex Flegal, Brandon Brown, Mike Flegal, Brad Hale, Tim Magee and Bernie Steele.
