Marianne Bubolz passed on peacefully in the early hours of June 27 at the age of 93 with family by her side. A summer thunderstorm called her heavenwards. She has gained her glory. Born in Kaleva, Mich. as the fourth child to Amos and Mathilda Marin, Marianne graduated from Gwinn High School and Suomi College (Finlandia University) before finally earning a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University.
In 1957, she married George Bubolz Jr. and settled in East Lansing, where they shared an active life together both in the community and as owners of Bubolz Insurance. Marianne and George Jr. were members of University Lutheran Church, active square dancers, and volunteered with Scouting along with local schools & sports. Their later years were spent travelling internationally, taking many cruises and serving as tour leaders for America By Rail.
A gentle, kind soul with a wry but light sense of humor, Marianne was known as a true friend and confidante to many. She was also a proud Finn, a devout Lutheran and never happier than when surrounded by family — her greatest joy and accomplishment.
Marianne is preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; siblings R. Miriam Beegle (J. Allan), Martin Marin (Luella), and Rudy Marin; along with beloved Bubolz in-laws George Sr., Margaret and Stella.
Marianne is survived by her children George Bubolz III (Charlotte Stafford), Eric Bubolz (Karen Sanders), and Julie B. Tikalsky (Paul); grandchildren Brooke and Erik Bubolz; Kendall, Sal and Maya Bubolz; and Peter and Daniel Tikalsky; her dear sister-in-law Joanne B. Eicher; plus 11 nieces, nephews and their respective families.
A special thanks to niece Grace Pierce, a most faithful companion and caretaker in Marianne’s last years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Marianne’s name to University Lutheran Church, East Lansing, MI (ulcel.org) or Finlandia Foundation National, Hancock, MI (FinlandiaFoundation.org).
Celebration of life services for M. Marianne Bubolz will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16 at University Lutheran Church, 1020 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing. Family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
