Passed away on January 1, 2013, at the age of 79. Nancy was born was born in Chicago, IL on December 23, 1933. The family moved to Madison, WI in 1935, where she spent the next 18 years as a student in the Madison Public School System. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in art education. Her first teaching job was in Oconomowoc, WI, where she met her future husband, Vern. They were married on September 7, 1957 in Karlsruhe, Germany, where she taught in the Karlsruhe Military School System. Subsequent teaching positions followed in the Monona Grove and Madison,Wisconsin Schools.
Nancy’s love of art and music, combined with her love of travel resulted in 14 trips overseas with various agencies and art groups. The friendships created during her travels lasted years beyond the original journeys. Her affection for vocal music led to participation in numerous groups, including the Opera Company of Mid-Michigan, the Opera Company of Michigan State University, the Michigan State Opera Company and the Michigan State University Choral Union and State Singers. Her greatest thrill as a musician was the opportunity to sing in Carnegie Hall as a member of the Michigan State University Chorus.
Nancy’s love of art continued beyond her teaching career. For decades she participated in the MSU Faculty Folk Art Group, with frequent excursions to local elementary schools to introduce aspiring young artist to the joy of creative art. Despite her love of the arts, Nancy’s greatest joy came from being with her family. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Red Cedar Oncology and Mid-Michigan Hospice House for the compassion and care they provided for Nancy.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Vernal (Vern) Seefeldt; two children, Lynne (Jesse) Clyma and John (Karen) Seefeldt; two grandchildren, Kayla and Ross Clyma; brother, Edward (Karlyn) Kamm and sister, Kathryn (William) Storm; sister-in-law, Maxine Seefeldt; brothers and sisters in law, Ralph and Judi Seefedt, Eugene and Darlene Seefeldt and Earl and Beverly Seefeldt; nieces and nephews, Kari (Brandon)Caldwell and Ross (Carly) Kamm, Kimberly (Ryan) Vaughn, Michael Storm, Stephanie (Scott) McDonald, Sherrie (Steve) Krienke , and Steve (Maggie) Seefeldt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Marjorie (Holscher) Kamm.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 at University Lutheran Church, 1020 Harrison Rd, East Lansing, with Pastor Fred Fritz officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment has occurred at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Okemos.
