Nelson E. "Nelly" Gilroy

Gilroy, Nelson “Nelly”, 69, of Pentwater, formerly of East Lansing, passed away November 17, 2016. He fought a short, but courageous battle with family and friends by his side. Nelson was born June 24, 1947 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Cecil F. Gilroy and Eleanor G. Gilroy (Talentino).

Nelson, president and founder of Capital Insurance Services, worked as an insurance producer for more than 40 years. He worked with many insurance professionals who he considered his friends. Nelson was a loving husband, devoted father, and playful papa. He enjoyed being outdoors, golfing, fishing, boating, and hunting. He found joy in cooking for his friends and family and was a dedicated Spartan fan. He celebrated life, was generous, and never met a stranger.

Nelson is survived by his loving, dedicated, and ever faithful wife, Judy Gilroy; his children, Jodi Gilroy and Adam (Elizabeth) Gilroy. He was very proud of his grandsons, Phillip Addiss, Neal Addiss, and Connor Gilroy. He leaves behind a large loving family, including his mother, Eleanor Gilroy, his brother, Roger Gilroy, his sisters, Cathy Smiley and Sharon (Alan) Oridway, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Gilroy, his mother-in-law, Jeanne Oesterle, his father-in-law, Rodney Oesterle, his brother-in-law, Jim Oesterle, and his nieces, Jessica Oesterle and Holly Andrus.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI with The Rev. Dr. Harold DeMott officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, November 21, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
