Richard "Dick" Allen, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in East Lansing, Michigan. Born on April 8, 1937, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Dick lived a life rooted in service, community, and the great outdoors.
A proud graduate of Marshall High School in 1955, Dick went on to earn his degree from Michigan State University in 1967. His passion for agriculture and education led him to a fulfilling career as an MSU Extension Agent and a dedicated 4-H agent in Lenawee County. He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), reflecting his lifelong commitment to agricultural development and youth mentorship.
Dick's love for nature was evident in every aspect of his life. He found joy in camping under the stars, casting lines into quiet waters while fishing, and exploring the woods during hunting season. A skilled photographer, he captured the beauty of these moments with care and precision. He was also an active member of the Lansing Muzzle Loading Gun Club, where he shared his enthusiasm for traditional marksmanship and camaraderie.
Family was central to Dick’s life. He is survived by a former spouse Marjorie Allen and his beloved wife Margaret Bucklin, whom he married on November 1, 1986. He was a devoted father to Rick (Sue) Allen, Tammy (Tony) Valdez, Loren (Bridgette) Bucklin, Brita Bucklin, and Heather (Steve) Rouse. As a grandfather to eleven and great-grandfather to nineteen, Dick took immense pride in watching his family grow across generations. His sister Janice Teller also survives him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Mildred (Henshaw) Allen; brother-in-law Harvey Teller; granddaughter Jillian Bucklin; nephew Michael Sting. His loyal canine companion Amber remained faithfully by his side until the end.
A celebration gathering of Dick’s life will be held on August 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1500 N. Blissfield Highway, Palmyra, MI 49268. Friends and family are invited to share memories and honor a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to the Ingham County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society—two causes close to his heart.
May Richard “Dick” Allen’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were touched by his generous spirit and enduring love for nature and community.
