Richard Speed “Dick” Bacon, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021. He was born July 29, 1926 in Detroit, MI the son of Howard Chapman and Esther Mae (Ingram) Bacon.
Richard married Suzanne Waldo on August 20, 1955. They had two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Eric) Rosekrans and Dorothy (Jim) Govan, grandchildren, Richard Blake (Kellie), Wesley (Hannah) and Carter Rosekrans, Ellie (Jake) Berkey and Michael Bacon Govan, great-granddaughters, Alice and Maren Rosekrans and Regan Berkey and his sister-in-law, Carol Denton Bacon. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Suzanne and brother, Howard Bacon.
Richard graduated from East Lansing High School in 1944 then served in the U.S. Air Corps stationed in Japan at the close of WWII. Richard graduated from Michigan State University in Civil Engineering under the G.I. Bill. He spent his career working as a Civil Engineer for the State of Michigan Highway Department. During that time he was able to help with the construction of the Mackinac Bridge. Richard loved to sail and was an avid Spartan Football Fan holding season tickets for over 40 years. He was a member of East Lansing Kiwanis Club, the University Club and a longtime faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Services will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa Street, Lansing, at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 10, 2021 with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM.
