Rick was a dedicated individual who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from
Wayne State University. He began his career working for the Friend of the Court. He then continued a fulfilling 40 year career at the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, working in Flint, Saginaw, and Lansing as an Adult Foster Care Worker and Contract Manager.
In his free time, Rick loved hiking and the quiet solitude of nature, which led him to work as a park ranger at Highland Recreation Area. He also enjoyed camping and being near the water. He was a lover of rock and roll and blues music, an avid reader, a history/western buff, and a devoted fan of MSU sports.
Rick met the love of his life in the bleachers section of the old Tigers stadium. He and Cheryl were married on September 20, 1974.
Rick is survived by his loving spouse Cheryl Latinen, daughters Lisa Harlan and Amy Latinen, sons Jeff Latinen and Keith Latinen, daughters-in-law Ashley and Cathy, grandchildren Jackson, Lydia, Molly, Cecilia, Kennedy, Penny, Henry, and Finley, as well as their beloved and rambunctious spaniel Brody.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Bernard Francis Latinen and Taimie Gertrude Latinen, brother Glenn Latinen, father-in-law Raymond Woodman, mother-in-law Lorraine Woodman, son-in-law Blair Harlan, and granddaughter Hope Harlan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association in memory of Richard Latinen.
Rick will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
