

Passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. He was born August 29, 1926 the son of Bernard Hopkins and Viola (Hopkins) Jarman. For Bob life was an adventure. Born and raised in Linton, Indiana it was toward the end of WWII at age 18 when he was drafted. Thus began his military career. He finished out the “Big One” then served post war in Japan, Germany and Austria. Next was the infantry throughout the Korean conflict. He returned to Germany before action in Vietnam. It was in Vietnam that Bob met and married his wife Hien. As Saigon fell, Bob’s years of service provided him with the skills and influence needed to bring Hien, her parents and siblings to America. Bob leaves behind his two sons, Robert Hopkins of Juneau Alaska and Nicholas (Katherine) Hopkins of Haslett, Michigan; his wife, Hien for whom he dearly cared, her siblings and their families, a half-brother Frank (Darlene) Jarman of Bloomington, Indiana and a sister Aloma Ferree of Linton, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Willis Jarman, and his aunt Lucille Bailey with whom he spent much of his youth.
Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 am Monday, July 6, 2015 at Gorsline Runciman East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing, Michigan and interment will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to the Quan Am Temple, 1840 N. College Rd, Mason, Michigan. He will be sadly missed.
