
Robert Edward Frederick, East Lansing. Retired pastor of the Haslett Community Church from 1966 to 1996. His death occurred on February 11th, 2018. He was 89. Surviving Bob is his loving family who include his wife, Clara, and their three children, Mary Santi, Anne (Michael Guerin), and William (Joan); grandchildren, Troy and Kathleen Guerin, Laura and Mark Santi, and five nieces and nephews.
Born to Leo and Frances Frederick, Bob, the youngest of three children, grew up in the Chicago area. His childhood was spent in both the city itself and in the suburb of Western Springs.
He was a graduate of Lyon Twp. High School, La Grange, IL, Lawrence University, Appleton, WI, and Chicago Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago Divinity School. He spent two years as an emergency room social worker at Cook County Hospital, and six years as program director of the Mary Mc Doweli Settlement House in the "Back of the Yards" area of Chicago. From 1959 to 1966 he was associate minister of the First Church UCC, Lombard, IL.
Coming to Michigan, Bob was active for many years on the UCC State Conference committees dealing with issues of poverty and race, and serving two terms as moderator of the Covenant Association. He also was a founding member of the Meridian Township Human Relations Commission.
A service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Haslett Community Church.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to United Nations Children's Fund or to other world organizations focusing on children's needs.
