Georgia & Family,  I used to keep in touch with Ron on Facebook and I realized I had not had any contact in a LONG time.  Today decided to do a search and found this obituary.  I have not lived in Michigan for many years so am out of the loop and so often the last to know when old friends have passed.  I met Ron when he walked into the Attorney General's office on his first day of work and worked with him until I left to be a stay at home mother.  I was glad to learn he had a long and successful career with the AG.  Working with him was always fun.  I also remember meeting you, Georgia, when you came into the office.  You had just gotten a teaching job (was it in Lake Odessa?).    It was no secret to anyone who knew Ron that you were the love of his life as he always spoke so lovingly about you.   He will live on with me whenever I make his golabki (cabbage rolls) recipe!  I am so very sorry for your loss.

Just learned about Ron's passing this morning when I saw a memorial mass notice (from the Catholic Lawyer's Guild) in the Cathedral bulletin. What an incredible loss! Working with Georgia as a colleague at Okemos High School (including several musicals together) and having had the privilege of teaching Jason for seven years in choir (including an unforgettable WEST SIDE STORY !), I knew Ron as a genial presence -- steadfastly supportive and always smiling! He touched so many lives in a positive way -- including mine -- and we are all the better for having known him. My deepest sympathy goes to Georgia, "the boys" and their families. May God help your grief to heal and the many memories Ron left behind be a constant comfort in your lives.

Every day Ron came into the office he would come in through the side door and knock on my office door as he’d walk by in the most upbeat Ron Styka way; “How’s Miss Guthrie today?” In 2019 when I told him I was retiring from my position of 20 years that he knew I loved, the look of concern on his face was so deep. He had me come in his office and talk with him about it. He genuinely wanted to make sure I was ok. He was so worried about me he was trying to figure out what he could do for me. He was father-like in that way. He was like that in so many ways with everyone he knew. He genuinely cared about people. I’ll never forget that day. He was always supportive of my career and looked to me for my expertise in telecom issues. He valued my opinion. He looked to me for advice. He made me feel valued. He made me feel like I mattered and my opinion mattered. This was Ron. He made everyone feel like they mattered. He made everyone feel like an equal. He genuinely cared and that’s how he led. His leadership on the board and in this community is deeply missed. He was an amazing person.  

Ron has always been "Mr. Styka" to me, as that's how I got to know him some 40 odd years ago, as I became best friends with Jason. I think the title "Mr. Styka" still fits, as he fully embodied what I have come to know what being a 'Styka' means. To me "Styka" means warmth, laughter, 'authenticity' (i.e. saying what's on your mind ;) ), lots of love, fascinating stories, fun-times, wisdom, caring for others, and giving to community. I see these traits in all the Stykas, and I think that is an excellent tribute to the parent and role model that Mr. Styka was (and Mrs. Styka too).                          The Stykas always welcomed me into the family and treated me as one of their own. I looked forward to Mr. Stykas stories, his jokes, his smile, and his laughter. Just thinking of his laughter and his genuine, fun-loving spirit puts a big smile on my face. I also valued his advice, loved learning about all kinds of things from him, and appreciated the way he always made me felt loved and cared for. Mr. Styka was--and still is--a significant role model for me. Knowing him (and the rest of the Styka family) has made me a better person, and for that I am forever grateful. He will always live on in my heart and in my spirit.

Ron made sure he was at every family event and loved every one of them. This is our family at my daughter's wedding in front of the Meridian Township historical chapel.

Georgia, Jason, George, Joe and James, we send our condolences.   We prayed and continue to pray for Ron and all of you during this very sad time.  Our memories of Ron go back 34 years and we will miss him!  He was our friend and colleague.  We remember his great stories, wonderful Christmas gatherings and beautiful Christmas village, and especially his special paczki deliveries to Meridian Township offices celebrating Fat Tuesday!

I knew Ron from the 15 years I served in the Attorney General’s Office.  We were both just out of college in our first jobs, and the future was all in front of us. We went through a lot of firsts at about the same time, buying our first furniture, first house, having our first baby, and having our first child go to school.  Outside of the office, we socialized together, attending parties, get togethers, events, and other functions.  Ron was always upbeat and jovial, and fun to be around.  A stand up good guy and a hail fellow well met.  Our deepest condolences to Georgina, his sons, and their families.

It greatly saddened me to hear of Ron’s passing.  I remember when we AG families were all just starting our families and  would get together socially.  Those were such fun times. Ron and Georgia became friends in 1971 when both Ron and I joined the Attorney General's office.  We spent the next 10 years as professional colleagues and friends as we began our families and careers at the same time.  Ron was always both an affable friend and colleague as well as a public-spirited public servant right from the beginning, and that continued throughout his life. We had many good times and fond memories together during those early years.  It is so sad to lose Ron much too early. I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Styka's passing. Mrs. Styka was my 9th grade U.S. history teacher and instilled an interest in U.S. government that I still hold to this day as I work in the U.S. House of Representatives. My deepest condolences to the Styka family. Thank you for everything you've given our community. 

I met Ron through my involvement in the Okemos Public Schools.  I had the privilege of replacing him on the OPS School Board.  His commitment to the community continued with his elected service to Meridian Township.  He would ask for my input on transportation issues as he did others in their area of expertise.  I always enjoyed working with him because of his calm personality.

May his wife and family be comforted in their loss by his many years of positive impact on our community.

I worked with Ron at the Attorney General’s office, bought a car from him, and served on a labor association board with him.  My two daughters were also students of Georgia.  Lisa and I have known him for over 35 years.   He was a good friend, colleague, and great public servant.  What a great example of a life to live.   He will be missed greatly.  And he always had the best decorated house around Christmas.  He exemplified the type of attorneys the late Eternal General Frank Kelley would hire to serve the public best. I remember being  at a family gathering. Ron  just got  his  driver's license, and  asked me to  go to the  store with him. I thought  that was  so cool being  3 years  younger than him. I know he is  driving  his  way to  heaven.  Love  cousin  Dave  Wolak 

My heart cannot express what it feels loosing my only brother.  We have shared a lifetime as siblings. We had ups and downs. But always shared love.  Not being able to call him or text him or be with him leaves a void in my life forever.   

I was so saddened to learn of Ron's passing. I mourn his loss but celebrate his life of caring, giving and all of his amazing accomplishments and contributions. His glory will endure as he was a real Human Being.

Ron was a very big part of my life ,  He was like a brother always there when I needed him and for the total community.  He was unselfishly dedicated to friends, family and a broad spectrum of constituents.  He was loving, brilliant and a great man. We have enjoyed being a part of the Styka Family and sharing holidays and family get togethers.    Christmas is always special with Ron and Georgia  making room for everyone.

Ron Styka was an outstanding community member in Okemos and the Greater Lansing area!  His love for life shined through all that he did.  I was a secretary when Mr. Styka was a school board member.  He was a leader, a mentor, and a friend. (We were both from the Detroit area.)  My husband and I always looked forward to the Styka annual update that came with their Christmas card each year. We extend our sincere condolences to all his family and friends for this sudden loss!  Irene and Larry Twork
