Rosemary Agnes Burman Wolcott, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, age 94, died November 6, 2017 at Vista Springs Timber Ridge Assisted Living in East Lansing, MI. Born April 3, 1923 in Detroit, MI.
Rosemary was the second youngest of six children. Her father died when she was 11. Her mother who was raised on a farm in Fowler, Mi. with a sixth grade education successfully raised the family. Rosemary became engaged to Henry Wolcott in 1942. While Henry was away at war, Rosemary earned a degree in nursing. In May 1944, Henry became missing in action after the B-24 he piloted was shot down over Belgium. After a very harrowing four months that included capture and imprisonment he returned home unharmed. They were married October 21, 1944 in Detroit.
Early in her career Rosemary served as a nurse in pediatric, surgical and geriatric settings. Later she worked at the Ingham County Health Department Immunization Clinic and as a health education instructor in the Lansing Public Schools. After her retirement she served as a hospice volunteer and was always busy helping others. She had a particular concern for the care of the environment. Rosemary and Henry were active in both St. Casimir and Resurrection parishes. Rosemary enjoyed numerous activities, including golf, bridge and fishing.
Rosemary loved all people, especially her large family. She is survived by two daughters, Susan (James) Wilson of Bath and Mary Ellen (James) Knopp of Phoenix, Arizona; four sons, Henry (Nell) Wolcott of Lansing, James (Lorraine) Wolcott of South Boardman, MI., Stephen (Diane) Wolcott of East Lansing and William (Gloria) Wolcott of Lansing; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her five siblings, a son-in-law and a great grandson.
The family sincerely thanks the staff at Timber Ridge and Great Lakes Hospice for their compassionate care. A funeral Mass will take place Friday, Dec., 1 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Lansing. Memorial donations may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Resurrection Parish.
