Samuel B. Lovall

January 7, 1923September 19, 2013

Samuel B. Lovall Haslett, Michigan Samuel B. Lovall passed away on September 19, 2013. He was born on January 7, 1923 in Hopkins, Michigan to Zillah and Burl Lovall. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Sam was a man of many trades but his passion was banking. First with East Lansing State Bank and then with Capitol National Bank where he retired at age 85. He is survived by his wife Jane, daughter Becky (Randy) Goodman and son Sam “Brent” (Susan). Step children he treated as his own, Patrick (Laura) Wise, Sherry (Adrian) Kassenbrock and Thomas Wise. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Sam always wanted to be remembered as the man that would help out the “little” guy when they couldn’t get what they needed from the big banks. Therefore he is also leaving behind many appreciative friends he has helped along the way. He was a charter member of Pine Lake Golf Club and a 26 year member of the American Legion Post 269. Sam was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn, brother Oliver, sister Evelyn and his parents. A big thanks to each of his caregivers, most of all to Eva with Hospice Advantage and also Mary Freeman and buddy for all of the love and comfort they gave Sam every Sunday without fail. Please, in lieu of flowers, go and visit a relative or friend, whether they remember you or not. Thanks a million to each of you that were able to do that for Sam. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Waverly Rd. Suite 304, Lansing, Michigan 48917, in honor of Eva, Laura, and Rochelle and in memory of Sam. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, Michigan for a memorial visitation. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing Chapel. Mom and Dad were Howard and Kitty Milford. I am sure you and Sam knew them. They spent lots of time golfing and at Pine Lake as it was then.

We were so lucky to meet Sam and he always said Hello, even if he was not sure who we were. We believe he knew our Mom and Dad from Pine Lake but never connected that until now. It is just a small world. May he rest in peace.

I never met a kinder or classier man. Always had a big smile and a nice word to share. He took the time to make everyone he met feel special. He will be truly missed.
