Shirley M Belyea
February 8, 1925 – June 3, 2019
On June 3rd, 2019, Shirley M. Belyea passed away at 94 years of age in the loving care of The Willows at Okemos. Shirley was born to George and Emily Morris on February 8th, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. Shirley grew up alongside her older brother, George Morris Jr., with whom she remained close until his passing at age 101.
Brilliant and driven, Shirley was one of a very few women to graduate from a university in her day. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Michigan State University in only 3 years, and remained an avid Spartan fan throughout her life.
It was at MSU that Shirley met her lifelong friends and sisters of the Delta Zeta sorority. In fact, it was her sorority sister, Eleanor Stubbs, who introduced her to the love of her life, Ross "Bud" Belyea. Eleanor (Bud's sister) set the two up on a blind date and they married soon after. The two remained together until Bud's passing in 1981.
Shirley loved connecting with friends and family, traveling, a good game of Bridge, watching the Tigers, the daily crossword puzzle (which she completed in ink), and chocolate. She was kindhearted and quick-witted. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone as smart or as loving as Shirley Belyea.
Shirley lives on through her friends and family. She is survived by her son, Allen Belyea and his wife Karlene, grandchildren Tyler and Kelsey, sorority sister-turned sister-in-law Eleanor Stubbs, dear friend Sylvia Biris, as well as her nieces and nephews. Although Shirley will be dearly missed by many, we take comfort in knowing how elated she must be to be reunited with the loved ones that passed before her.
In lieu of flowers or donations, if you have parents still here on earth, the family encourages you to call them and make sure they know how very much you love them. If they have passed, send some love up to them.

Our deepest condolences, Allen and family. Your mom was a very lovely
Lady and next door neighbor, trusted friend to my mother especially,
Who kept her curtains open on your side of our house! I never knew the
MSU facts in your lovely obituary, but feel very proud to have known Shirley. always smiling and thinking of others, like offering us extra parking space In her driveway Christmas Eves, when she was thrilled to overnight with you, to see her grandchildren's bright and early Christmases!
Your dad always ready and helpful, too. It will never be the same again
With all our parents gone, but I treasure my earliest memories of your
Mother always serving us icy Cokes in the 1950's when Mom took us next
Door to visit--thrilling, as we were raised non-soda pop! I'm so glad your mom was living close to you in her last years--you were her heart. Bless you, Shirley.---the Milnes

Our sincere condolences to Allen and family. While my mother still lived on Alden Dr, I stopped on occasion to visit Mrs. Belyea, and she always had a smile and time to visit. Truly a special lady.

We are sending loads of love your way, Al, Karlene, Tyler and Kelsey. What a wonderful and loving aunt I had in Aunt Shirley and it was fun to reminisce about she and Uncle Bud with you, Allen. ❤️❤️ - Beth
