

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Wesley Bagby and Dorothy Virginia Lechler Bagby. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Hutcheson West (Brian); her granddaughters, Loren West Darin (Scott) and Josie West; and her great-grandson, Zander West.
Ginny was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and always had fond memories of the city and her life there. She obtained her Bachelor’s of Music at Stetson University and her Master’s in Public Administration from Michigan State University. She worked for 14 years in property management for the State of Michigan, as well as assistant director for the Michigan Council for the Humanities and as major grants coordinator for the Michigan Council for the Arts. At Michigan State University, Ginny was the director of the off-campus performing arts events covering 15 states and parts of Canada.
Virginia was very active in the arts community in East Lansing, serving on the Michigan Council for the Arts for many years. She served on the Metropolitan Lansing Fine Art Council as president and executive vice president, as well as chairperson of the Lansing Arts Festival Month and Day with the Arts. She served as president of the East Lansing Public Library Board and served on the East Lansing Fine Arts Commission. Ginny also served as president for the Lansing Women’s Club, a 135-year-old literary club, and loved the time spent researching and presenting her research papers to the group.
Virginia loved to travel, enjoying trips to Alaska, Russia, and Machu Picchu. She adored animals, feeding birds and local wildlife from her back door. She was especially fond of her bird, Toby, who lived with her for 34 years.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, on March 7, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
