Dr. Willard Glade Warrington “Bill” was born at home in Ray, Illinois on October 24, 1920. He passed away on May 23, 2013 in East Lansing, Michigan. Bill grew up with his sister, Neva on a family farm in western Illinois, riding a horse to a one room school, after he finished his chores. Bill was the first in his family to graduate from college, attending Western Illinois University and the University of Illinois.
In his personal life Bill valued interacting with people from all walks of life. He loved to travel, (everywhere from Alaska to Australia; Eastern Europe to the Philippines), follow MSU sports, read (especially history), fishing, camping, mushrooming, gardening and home improvement. However, Bill’s greatest love was his family, investing in them with much time and wise council. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Janette, his four children, David, Dr. Steven W., Dr. Stephen C. and Jane, his six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Irene (married 24 years), and his son, Douglas.
Bill lived most of his life in East Lansing, serving as a professor at Michigan State University for over 33 years and retiring as dean of University College at MSU. He was recognized as an international expert in testing and measurement, receiving many awards, including the Distinguished Faculty Award at MSU. Bill was also a founding member of University United Methodist Church as well as a founding member and past president of the Michigan Head Injury Alliance
Bill was a veteran, serving in WWII, and was involved in D-Day (forecasting the weather for the allied invasion), and also in the Air Force Reserves, retiring from the military as a Lt. Colonel.
He will be missed…..
