OBITUARY

William Ambrose Freemire

July 30, 1927October 2, 2021

William Ambrose Freemire July 30, 1927-October 2, 2021 Bill was born in Lansing, Michigan being the first child of LeGrand and Lourena Freemire. Bill was a lifelong resident of the Lansing area, graduating from Eastern High School in 1945. Bill was a lifelong Spartan fan, graduating from MSU in 1949. Bill was a member of the Downtown Coaches Club for many years. Bill’s homecoming with Jesus Christ coincided perfectly with the Spartans Homecoming game October 2, 2021. Bill worked all thru college with a few of his jobs being for Reo Motors and a census taker.

After college Bill joined the National Guard giving four years of service. After leaving college he met the girl of his dreams, Joan Elaine Lear, and they were married May 17, 1952. One day Bill called on a job for a claims adjuster with State Farm Insurance. When someone answered the phone he told them, “I want to be a Sales Agent”. Well, Bill was put in touch with the Sales Manager “Ike Gage” and as they say, the rest is history.

Bill loved being a State Farm Agent and built up a very successful agency. Many family vacations could find a slight detour to go take a picture of a homeowner policy he just wrote. Bill went on to win numerous contests and company trips as a result of his hard work and sales efforts. Retiring from State Farm in 1994, Bill enjoyed a very active retirement playing golf, tennis, traveling and watching his Tigers spring train in Lakeland, Florida, where he spent his winters.

Preceding him in death are his parents, LeGrand and Lourena Freemire, and the love of his life, Jo E. Freemire. Surviving are son, Bill Freemire; daughter, Diana Jo (David) Weber of Lansing; son, Steven E. (Cindy) Freemire of Okemos; son, Eric Freemire; sister, Arone Huisgen; two brothers from different mothers, Andy Townsend of East Lansing and Larry Curtis of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30am Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm.

I am sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I haven't seen him for years since we moved to Houghton Lake and changed our insurance to the State Farm Agent here. He was the best agent and friend you could ever ask to meet. He would go out of his way to help in any way he could. I missed him when we moved, never found another like him. My prayers go out to the family . Rosemary Borchert

It has been so many years since I knew Bill. We used to enjoy an occasional cocktail at the Hoffman House, or downtown. I remember Joan and Diana also. I remember the home on New Salem in Okemos; which is one street away from where we live on Heritage. My memories of Bill are very fond, and he was always the example of class, and cool. My sincere condolences to you children and grandkids.

I remember so many good times and support from Bill. He was like another Father to me and I knew if I ever needed anything he would be there to help.

I remember several euchre games and lots of adult beverages. Lots of fun!

I also remember the rotating Friday evening happy hours in the neighborhood. Great times for the adults and us kids!

Bill and Jo came across Florida for my Dad's funeral which I will never forget and I'm eternally grateful for.

We have experienced the loss of a great man and heaven gained a wonderful angel. Forever in our hearts!
