Washington – Alice Mae (Cummins) Orten, 94, of Washington, IL, passed away on March 26, 2025, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. She was born February 19, 1931, east of Roodhouse, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Nellie Mae Dyer Cummins. She married Roscoe Orten, Jr. on May 29, 1949 in White Hall, IL. They were happily married for 64 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe, her son, David Ross Orten, and grandson Eric Orten.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy Heffernan of Washington, IL; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Orten of Elmwood, IL; three grandsons; Aaron Heffernan, Paul Heffernan, Chad Orten, and six great grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters, and two infant brothers.
Alice devoted her life to her family and service to the Lord. She worked at Libby’s in Morton, IL, early in their marriage. Later, she worked as the church secretary at Ro-Land Manor Baptist Church in Washington, IL, for 23 years. She was an active member there since 1956 and enjoyed serving in many varied capacities.
A celebration of life will be held at Remmert Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 3, 2025 with visitation one hour prior to the service. Cremation rites will be accorded.
