Born July 23, 1982 in Peoria, IL to Lawrence "Larry" and Victoria (Scott) Heren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lawrence and Donna (Millard) Heren and Hall E. and Mareta (Barron) Scott.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his parents, Great-aunt Laverne Hoffman, aunt Laurie (Stan) Stokley, cousins, Tamara Schaidle, Eric, Amanda and Stacy Klecker, and many other extended family.
Chris was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria, where he served as Treasurer and in several other ministries. He was a graduate of Concordia Lutheran School in Peoria and East Peoria Community High School. He received his Bachelors Degrees in Geology and Biology from the University of Illinois and Master's Degrees in Theology and Systematics from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. He attended Bradley University in Peoria for Masters work in Biology for one year, earned an associates degree in Philosophy at ICC in East Peoria and attended Concordia Seminary for one year in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Chris was currently an Adjunct Professor at Illinois Central College teaching Comparative World Religion and he was a substitute teacher in Chemistry for a semester at East Peoria Community High School. He was an Eagle Scout and a voracious reader of religion and many other topics. He loved teaching, tutoring, mentoring students and seeing them advance in their education. He enjoyed watching movies, playing video games, chanting and singing in church as well as spending time with his friends.
In addition he enjoyed Geology and Paleontology and spent a summer in Park City, Utah doing geological field work as well as searching for fossil fish in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm with Trisagion Prayers at 6 pm on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Peoria. Rev. Dr. Ciprian Sas will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
