He was born Oct. 30, 1937 in Peoria to Karl and Lucille (Church) Mason. He married Margaret “Lucille” Heathman on Oct. 18, 1969 in Bartonville. She passed away May 7, 1998 in Spring Bay. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Patricia Doering, one stepdaughter, Patty Jacobson, and one grandson, Leslie Pudney.
Survivors include one daughter, Kelly (Danny Morris) Mason of Spring Bay, one son, Doug (Karen) Mason of Missouri, two stepdaughters: Barb (James) Neely of Missouri, Judy (Loren) Myers of Florida, 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Don was a United States Navy Veteran. Following his time in the military, he retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 30 years. He then worked for Blain’s Farm and Fleet for 15 years retiring in 2019.
He was a member of the Riversedge United Methodist Church in Spring Bay, Spring Bay American Legion Post 1115, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Rev. Binu Peniel will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Morton with Military Honors.
