She was born on January 4, 1939 in Peoria to Wilhelm and Frieda (Abegg) Schmidt. She married Ronald A. Godby on April 16, 1967 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2001 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one brother and sister in law, Ludwig (Roberta) Schmidt; one brother in law, Bill Keas; and one niece.
Doretta is survived by one son, Charles (Lesley) Godby of Germantown Hills; one daughter, DiAnn Godby of Normal; three grandchildren, Sydney, Grace and Brooke Godby; one sister, Elsa Keas of Pekin; and several great nieces and nephews.
Doretta worked at East Peoria Community High School in the office and records department until retiring in 2001.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria and its Sewing/Quilting Club, Jen’ys Bible Study and the Church Choir.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria. The Rev. Dr. James R. Lillie will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or TAPS.
