Fred K Smith

Born January 22, 1927 in Evansville, IN to Floyd N. and Betty (Birch) Smith; he married Marian L. Schoch on October 13, 1946 in East Peoria. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2009.

Surviving are his daughter, Teresa Harris of Tremont; grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Harris of East Peoria and Kelly (Joel) Hartman of Tremont; great grandchildren, Katey (Kyle), William, Savannah, Madison, Natalie, Lauren and Renee; his great-great granddaughter, Marguerite; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Harold Harris; brothers, Floyd N. Smith, Jr and Edward Ray Smith and his sister, Julia Denning.

Fred was a WWII US Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Cecil.

After the war, Fred went to work at Caterpillar Inc and was a tool designer until he retired in 1989.

He was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church in East Peoria for over 50 years where he served as a Trustee.

Fred could work on and fix just about anything and he was always glad to use his talent and skill to help others. He enjoyed his neighbors and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday, December 29, 2017 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria with burial following at Fondulac Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested to his church or TAPS in Pekin.
