

Washington – J. “Fred” Humphreys, 71, of Washington, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on February 16, 1950 in Vinita, OK to Rex T. and N. Celestine (Clanton) Humphreys. He married Barbara J. Fowler on August 30, 1974 in Washington. She survives.
Fred is also survived by his son, Aaron James (Erin) Humphreys of Chillicothe; two grandchildren, Alexis Myranda and Alton James Humphreys also of Chillicothe; bonus daughter, Michelle Dubois of Metamora; daughter-in-law, Amanda Bach of Chillicothe; two sisters, Charlotte (Ron) Uftring and Debbie Fox, both of Washington; several nieces and nephews; aunt, Linda Clanton of Vinita, OK; and an uncle, Wayne Inman of Vinita, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hal Craig Humphreys; uncles, Tom Clanton and Argene Clanton; and aunt, Lefty Inman.
Fred served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Illinois Central College in East Peoria, achieving two associates degrees in criminal justice and welding. He worked for 35 years as a materials handler for Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 2010.
Fred was a member of Beverly Manor Missionary Baptist Church in Washington and Alpha-1 Foundation.
Fred's graveside service will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Pastor Jason Shults will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Beverly Manor Missionary Baptist Church. The family has entrusted service arrangements to Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria.
