Uncle Jim baked me a cake for my high school graduation and it read," I did it my way" I guess it was a poke at me for taking 4.5 yrs to graduate...lol And I guess the rest of the story that just came to me recently was that he did the same thing and He was the first graduate at the new Manual High. Thanks for the memories Uncle Jim.

Just learned of Jim's passing on my return from vacation.  He was always a pleasure to work with and brightened everyone's day at the office.

Please accept my deep sympathy on Jim's death. Jim was always a gentleman and a jolly one, too, at the Morton office. Death is not easy to accept, but Jim was lucky not to have to suffer longer. I am very sorry to hear about the passing of your dad.  He was such a thoughtful pleasant man.  You could always count on him for a smile.  :)  Losing your father is so hard.  I still struggle. This is way too difficult for me. I never knew my paternal grandfather, and grandpa Garrett was the closest person I had. He never treated me any different than the other grandkids and I always knew he loved me. He was there for a good laugh whenever I needed him and I love him with all my heart. Sitting here typing this makes me cry because I think about all the important days in my life that he is going to miss. I wish he could be here for my high school graduation and my wedding and the birth of my future children. I wish he was here just to tease me about eating butter just one more time. Most importantly to me, he made my brother happy. He had my brother convinced he was the real Santa Claus for years and it always brought a smile to my face. He loved his family with everything he had and it showed. He IS my grandfather blood or no blood, and he WILL be missed. I love you grandpa and I want you to know that I never will forget you and you will always be on my mind. There are not enough tears in my body that I can cry for you, but I know you don't want me to cry, you want me to celebrate your life and that's exactly what I plan to do. I promise. I love you.

I WILL MISS MY GRANDPA VERY MUCH. I WOULD SET ON THIS LAP AND WE WOULD WATCH CARTOONS AND EAT POPCORN TOGETHER.I LOVE YOU GRANDPA.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words at such a difficult time for our family. It means the world to us that Dad will be so fondly remembered by so many people. Dad was never one to gracefully accept any kind of attention. Were he here now I am sure he would tell us all to stop making such a fuss about him. He deserves the fuss more than he would ever know. I am proud to have had a father who touched so many lives. I am even more proud to carry his name. I miss you Dad.

I knew when I married your son that I was pretty darn lucky. Little did I know that my fortune was two fold. Not only did I receive a great husband, but I got the best inlaws a girl could ever wish for! You drew me into your family like I always belonged there. I love you and will miss you terribly. I am very proud to be the other "Mrs. Jim Garrett". Rest in peace pop.       P.S. Please find my dad up there. I've told him all about you and he's been waiting.

Jim was a wonderful person and fantastic grandfather.  The amount of love that he had for his family was huge.  I have nothing but fond memories of him and am blessed that he is Brad's Grandpa.

To the Garrett family, truly sorry for your loss. I can remember back when I was a little boy and getting to know your family. As you can remember I was a little bit shy at that time. So meeting Big Jim was a little bit scary for a shy boy. I can remember seeing a huge man with a beard and Jimmy saying that’s my Dad. As you can imagine I kind of put my head down and said hi. As I got to know him through the years I admit I still didn’t want to make him mad, but I found in that big guy was an even bigger heart.  Big Jim was always nice to me and I could see how much he cared for his family. Through the years my best memory of him was watching him as Santa Claus at the Breakfast for St. Jude. To this day I still don’t know who was more happy the kids or Big Jim. If I had to bet, my money would be on Big Jim.

There are so many memories of Jim, but most of all I know his caring nature, big heart, big laugh, his joy in children especially his own kids and grandkids, and his gentle way with all young ones.  I am blessed to have had his remarkable friendship.  Heaven gained a big, bearded angel.....and a darn fine chauffeur!

Peace and comfort to you, Tomma, Chris, Jody, Jim, and your families.  Jimmie J. left a fine legacy.

My grandfather passed 5 am at age 67. Growing up my grandfather was a huge part of my life, we did everything together from visiting Wild Life Prairie Park to just going to the store for groceries. He was a great man, a great husband, a great father, and in my eyes an even greater grandfather. He always managed to put a smile on my face even when others were bringing me down. I will love and miss my grandfather all my life but he will most certainly never be forgotten. He was a cherished part of our family no matter what he did or what was going on. He will be greatly missed by us all, including me. He was a wonderful man in my life and I will always love my grandfather. Feel free to read his Obituary linked below. I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Garrett Family during their time of bereavement.  Jim was a friend of mine when I worked at Morton Caterpillar in the DP area.  My prayers goes out to the family that the Lord will keep, comfort and sustain you all during this time.

Jim was a great friend and always had a big smile on his face.  I loved his sense of humor & his big, hearty laugh.  If I was having a bad day at work, a stop by his desk could always make things brighter.  He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him .  Your family will be in my prayers.

Jim was one of the first people I met at Caterpillar in Morton.  He helped me many times.   I remember him as a extra friendly caring person.

Jim and I worked together for most of his 33 years, and I will miss him dearly, especially his wit and humor.  Jim was a special person who gave back to children thru his Santa ministery.  He will be greatly missed.

Jim was a good friend and co-worker for many, many years, and I will always cheerish his humor and wit.  He did a miraculous thing for children of all ages when he became Santa every year.  He will be misssed greatly.

So sorry to hear that Jim passed away.  He was a great guy and I enjoyed working with him at Caterpillar.  I'm sure you and your family will miss him a great deal.  Thoughts and prayers heading our way.

I worked with Jim at Cat for most of those 33 years and ate lunch with him many times.  He was always a pleasure to be around and was one of those people that would do just about anything for anyone.  Thanks for the memories Jim.  His family is in my thoughts and prayers.
