Kalman Gyory

Kalman was born October 23,1931 in Takacsi, Hungary to Karoly and Agnes Gyory. In 1957, Kalman left his family in the middle of the night during the Hungarian Revolution and made his way to Austria and freedom. When he came to the United States, he arrived at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey and came to Galesburg, Illinois as a sponsor of the Emmanuel Methodist church.

Kalman is survived by his four sons, Karoly (Colleen) Gyory, of Groveland, Albert (Cecilia) Gyory of Licking Missouri, Russell (Valerie) Gyory of Chandler, Arizona, and David Gyory of Mesa, Arizona, one sister Sarah (Dezsi) Boroczky, one nephew and one niece of Papa, Hungary. Kalman is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three great great grandsons and one great great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Karoly and Agnes, Brothers Karoly and Lajos, nephew Tomas and grandson John.

Kalman’s first job after coming to Galesburg was at Lucky Boy bakery, then he went to work at Admirals. He left there to work at Gates Rubber company where he retired in January 1996, after twenty-eight years of service.

Kalman loved working in his wood shop where he constructed many replicas of houses with fine detail to each. He was constantly in his garage tinkering or building something. He enjoyed being outside mowing the grass, fishing or just sitting out in the sunshine. He also loved taking care of the “Doggies”-Anna, Niko and Cindy Lu.

Visitation will be on August 18th at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria for family and friends to gather to celebrate his life. After the visitation, cremation rites will be accorded.
