

He was born September 17, 1923 in Springfield, IL to Bert and Emma (Brake) Bertram. He was introduced to his future wife, Eleanor Baker, by her brother Harold Baker while both men served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Eleanor and Leroy were married January 19, 1946 and she preceded him in death in 2002.
Surviving are his daughter with whom he lived the past three years, Cindy McBroom of Grayson and her children Chad, Christy, and stepson Kevin McBroom; his son, Dan (Joyce) Bertram of Centennial, CO and their children Erin, Ryan, Elisabeth, Daniel and Sam; his daughter, Michele Zalisko of Bogart, GA and her daughters Leah and Ellie; his daughter Jamie (Scott) Marsh of Claremore, OK and their children Tyler, Jordan, and Samantha; and 11 great grandchildren.
Also preceding in death was his sons-in-law, Mac McBroom and David Zalisko.
He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the 2nd Cavalry and involved in Normandy Beach landing, Battle of the Bulge, and the armored division. He received the Purple Heart.
He was a leader in the Boy Scouts for several years and was a meat cutter with Eagle grocery stores until retiring in 1984.
Leroy was a member of the Loganville First Methodist Church.
The family also would like to extend their gratitude to Brenita Johnson. She cared for Leroy daily over the last year and a half. Her special care and friendship gave the family peace and Leroy loved her and her children.
Services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria with Rev. Gabriel Wanck officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service beginning at 9:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project.
