Linda Kay (Wys) Minson

September 8, 1948 – February 15, 2025
Obituary of Linda Kay (Wys) Minson
IN THE CARE OF

Remmert Funeral Home

Linda Kay (Wys) Minson, age 76 of East Peoria, left this world and went home to be with the lord on February 15, 2025, with her husband and daughter by her side at Carle Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois.

Born September 8, 1948 in Peoria, Illinois to Donald "Pee Wee" Wys and Evelyn (Potter) Wys, Linda grew up in Highway Village and attended schools in East Peoria. While in 8th grade she started "going steady" with the love of her life, Elmer Minson, who just happened to live across the gulley from Linda's parent's home. Story told is that her Dad told Elmer if he is going to be dating his daughter he better get to digging some stairs up and down that gulley...and he did.

Linda married Elmer on September 17, 1966, at Highway Village Mennonite Church, followed by a romantic wedding night at the Peoria Speedway, where you would find them for many more years to come every weekend. They made their home in East Peoria, not too far from where they grew up themselves.

On November 24, 1967, their only child, Tami Lynn, entered the world. Linda became a stay-home Mom and was always there when Tami got home from school, participated in Mother's Club, and volunteered to be room mother during Tami's grade school years. Linda was proud of the woman that Tami grew up to be, but her biggest pride and joy was her grandsons, who lovingly called her Boss. She cared for the boys so they never had to go to daycare and loved them "a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck" as she always told them.

In her later years Linda began volunteering at nursing homes, helping with activities, and singing hymns on Sunday mornings. She loved her time with the residents and was even named Volunteer of the Year. And as fate would have it, she would one day become a resident herself after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While her memory failed her on many things, her mind never forgot those hymns, clear up until the end. She has definitely found her "Mansion Over the Hilltop."

Linda is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Elmer Minson, her daughter Tami (Richard) Knoll of Blanco, Texas, her grandsons, Ryan Arnold, Kyle Arnold, and Clifton Knoll all of Blanco, Texas, and Chail (Mariah) Knoll of Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, and two great grandchildren, Richie and Bea Knoll. She is also survived by her sisters, Norma Dison, Chris Wys-Goss, and Sue (Ty) Fisher, as well as many other family members.

She is predeceased by her parents, Don and Evelyn Wys, her parents in law, Clyde and Pauline Minson, and two brothers, Terry and Donald Lee Wys.

Cremation rites have been accorded.

She will be missed by her family, but we know she is up there waiting for us, singing hymns until we get there. Sleep well, Boss.
