

Morton, IL - Marshall Foley Leath, 94, of Morton, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. Marshall was born on September 21, 1919, in Carroll County, Virginia, near Fries Junction.
A Veteran of World War II, Marshall was drafted into the Navy on June 19, 1943. During his service, he was aboard the USS Halsey Powell when it was hit by a Kamikaze, off Kyushu, Japan on March 20, 1945. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945. In 1947, he went to Peoria, Illinois and was employed by Caterpillar Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1977. While riding the city bus to work, he met the love of his life Dorothy Hale and was later married on July 31, 1948.
Marshall is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy; his parents, Lonnie and Gracie Leath; two sisters and their husbands, Homer and Monrovia Isom and Sam and Florence Bourne; one brother, Calvin Leath. He is survived by one sister and her husband, Eunilee and Frank Bailey, of Pfafftown, NC; two brothers, Rhudy Leath and Fred Leath, of Galax, Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear friend, Gus Waeltz. The family would like to extend appreciation to Steve and Karla Young for all their love and dedication toward helping Marshall. Also, special thanks to all the nurses and staff of the Apostolic Christian Restmor.
Marshall was a member of the East Peoria Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm, on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Elder Paul Willett will officiate. Family will receive friends 30 minutes before services at the Funeral Home. Following the service, burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
