

He was born April 4, 1955, in Peoria to Max E. and Gladys I. (Barrett) Young. He married Gale Ann Voeste on May 21, 1982, in Bartonville. She survives along with his parents of Dunlap, his twin sisters: Barb Ashcraft of Princeville, and Brenda (Joe) Slyman of Elmwood. Also surviving are two nieces: Chelcee (Justin) Owens and Sarah Slyman, one nephew, Michael Slyman, and one grand nephew, Austin Owens. He will be sorely missed by his family, including his canine “kids”, Sue and Nikki.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his friend and mentor, Eddie Jack Bailey.
Mike was an avid NASCAR fan, an excellent mechanic, and loved spending time fishing and hanging in the “Outback” with his buddies. He was a master woodworker and donated his talents and assisted his wife for the benefit of TAPS.
Mike was employed at Ameren Cilco for 32 years and was a proud member of the brotherhood of IBEW Local 51. He was well respected by his peers and was considered a “MacGyver” by the crew, as the tiniest detail did not escape his attention.
Funeral services will be Saturday Jan. 14, 2012, at 12 Noon at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services.
Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
