Ronald J Swords

Born in Peoria, on August 24, 1938, he was the son of the late Chester and Florence (Anderson) Swords. On November 1, 1969, he married Shirley Ann Arnold in Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2024, and he missed her dearly over the last year they were apart.

Surviving Ron are two children, Gregory (Brenda) Swords of Washington, IL, and Cindy Swords of East Peoria; two step-children, Julie (Donald) Meyer of East Peoria, and James (Connie) Klinkradt of Metamora; 13 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and a brother, David Swords. Aside from his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Mark Swords; a sister, Virginia Cox; and two brothers, Raymond Swords and Clarence Swords.

Ron was employed by Keystone, Benson's Maytag, and went on to own and operate Swords Appliances for many years. Following his retirement, he worked at Sommerfield Hardware and was a volunteer groundskeeper at Snag Creek Golf Course. He was an active member at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria where he was active in the men's club and Promise Keepers. He was an avid golfer, woodworker, and in his later years picked up reading.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in East Peoria from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
