

Born April 26, 1938 in Pinson, Tennessee to Carmen Bruxie and Martha (Ludell) Holmes; he married the former Jean Visocky on May 8, 1965 in Creve Coeur, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Holmes of East Peoria and their children, Kellie (Cynthia) Norris of Flagstaff, Arizona, Mark (JoElyn) Holmes of Peoria and Michael (Cheryl Colbenson) Holmes of Newport, Maine; grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Jacob, and Emily; and great-grandson, Oliver.
His parents; sisters, Virginia Ann Ross and Sandra Lynn Brooks; and brothers, Lymon Rayford and Alford Ray all preceded him in death.
Ross was a US Army veteran serving from 1961 to 1963 as a specialist carpenter in the Company D 62nd Engineer Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received Expert Qualification Badges in Rifle and Carbine, and received the Good Conduct Medal before his honorable discharge in 1963.
Ross was a carpenter and began working at Caterpillar in 1956. He joined the Carpenter’s Union Local 183 in 1960 and remained a member until his retirement in 2003.
He was a longtime member of Ro-Land Manor Baptist Church.
An avid reader, Ross’ library numbered in the thousands of books.
Memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Military Funeral Honors will be conducted by the US Army at 3:00 PM followed by a time of sharing lead by his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
