He was born Oct. 15, 1929 in Terre Haute, IN to Homer and Julia (Hubbs) Cooper. He married Vera DeWitt on March 29, 1959 in Pittsfield, IL. She survives along with one daughter, Debbie (Gary) Sutton of East Peoria, one son, David (Penny) Cooper of O’Fallon, IL, and two granddaughters: Morgan Cooper of Seattle, WA, and Madelyn Cooper of O’Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Cooper.
Roy was a United States Army Veteran serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his time in the military, he went to work for the Army Corps of Engineers. He worked there for over 40 years and retired in 1989. He attended the Sunnyland Nazarene Church. He enjoyed working in his yard, caring to his cars, and spending time with his granddaughters.
Funeral services with Military Honors will be Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Rev. Rita Lovel will officiate.
Graveside services will be Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Versailles West Side Cemetery.
