He was born on October 31, 1928 in East Peoria, IL to Gerhardt and Marie (Meyer) Schoedel. He married Billie Louise Marsh on December 3, 1950 in East Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 10, 2012. Also preceding him in death was his parents; one son, Thomas Schoedel; one brother, Eldon Schoedel; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Yarberry.
Surviving are three sons, Alvin (Vicki) Schoedel of Peoria, Robert (Margie) Schoedel of Littleton, CO, and John (Sheryl) Schoedel of Crown Point, IN; a daughter-in-law, Debby Schoedel of East Peoria; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Schoedel of Chicago.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war and was honorably discharged in 1956. He owned and operated Schoedel Texaco in East Peoria for many years and then worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at District 86 until retiring. Bill was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria, where he served on the Board of Elders, as the Treasurer, taught Sunday School, and numerous other positions within the church. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, with the original Festival of Lights- Folepi's Forest, and was a long time blood donor with the American Red Cross. Bill was also an avid Bowler and bowled at several of the area Bowling Alley's.
A funeral service will be Monday, December 5, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Peoria. Burial will follow the service at Fondulac Cemetery. Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
