

He was born March 7, 1930 in Peoria to Ira and Violet (Cotton) Hagel. He married Patricia Jones on January 25, 1957 in Peoria. She passed away December 22, 2015 in Peoria. He is also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Matthew Hagel, one brother, Clyde Hagel, and one sister, Faye Martin.
Survivors include one son, Scott Hagel of East Peoria, three daughters: Susan Beam of North Carolina, Kathryn (Ted) Klopp of Sebastapol, CA, Dr. Ann Charvat of New Orleans, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition, several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the OSF Hospice Program for their care and compassion for Willis, and his family of caregivers: Bonna Poore, Karen Jenkins, Jack Dedert, Curtis Balls, Amanda Whitfield, Gabriel Charvat, Brett Shofield, Carla Blair, and Bill & Norma Gangloff. They also offer gratitude to neighbors Kim, Ronnie, Cassandra, and Jordan.
Willis was a Brick Mason for Otto Baum, retiring in 1982. Following his retirement, he went to work as a Custodian at Washington Elementary School until 1995.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Willis’s life will be Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 1 p.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Casual attire is encouraged by the family.
Private burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
