Mrs. Beverly Patrick passed away on November 23, 2014. She was born Beverly Ann Gunn in Washington, D.C. on October 25, 1929. She was the daughter of Colonel Clem Oliver Gunn and Hazel Melton Gunn of Crawfordville, Georgia, Taliaferro County.
Her formative years were spent on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Fort Monroe, Virginia, and Crawfordville. She is a graduate of Crawfordville High School, class of 1948. She attended the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology. At UGA, she earned several distinctions, serving in student government and as an officer in her sorority Alpha Gamma Delta.
After graduation, she pursued training in medical technology and worked for several years as a lab technician at Saint-Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta. In Atlanta she met her future husband Griffin Patrick, Jr. They were married in 1951 and had four children: Joel Griffin III, Laura Ellen, Frank Gunn, and Thomas Carlton. She served in many civic groups and was a frequent volunteer in church and school organizations.
In later life she worked as a caterer, specializing in receptions and weddings. She will be remembered for her refinement, warmth, cheerfulness, her love of music and her devotion to the Episcopal faith.
She was preceded in death by a brother Clem Oliver Gunn, Jr., and she is survived by her four children and 6 grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA near the graves of her mother and father. On Saturday, November 29, the family will hold a visitation at Carmichael-Hemperly Funeral Home in East Point, GA at 12:00pm. A memorial service will follow in the historic chapel of at 1:00 PM.
